Oklahoma Baptist extended its season-long Sooner Athletic Conference win
streak to four games with a 3-0 sweep of Southern Nazarene in Shawnee
Tuesday.
OBU, ranked 16th in the NAIA volleyball coaches' poll released earlier in the day, won 25-22, 25-15, 25-23. It is OBU's seventh consecutive win.
Rupia Inck recorded 21 kills and an ace in the three-set match, followed by Kristin Pressley with 11 kills. Sabra Clark added 32 assists.
Defensively, Cami Weimer and Pressley had 18 digs each with Inck adding a dozen and Gabrielle Samuels digging 10. OBU was held to one block as a team with Clark and Skyler Strahm sharing the assist.
Morgan Loewen of SNU, the reigning conference Hitter of the Week, was limited to eight kills and also had eight attack errors.
In the first set, OBU got out to a 6-1 lead and held a 14-8 advantage before the Crimson Storm rallied and eventually took a 21-20 lead.
After a SNU attack error, Inck added a kill and was answered by Southern Nazarene's Taryn Steele. SNU had a service error and asset error to hand the first set to the Lady Bison.
Down 3-1 in the second set, OBU put together 11 straight points, including kills by four different Lady Bison and five SNU attack errors. The Lady Bison cruised in from there for a 2-0 lead in sets.
With the score 21-20 in the third set, the Lady Bison extended their lead to 24-20 with two kills by Inck. SNU rallied to within 24-23, but Inck spiked home the match-ending point for the sweep.
Now 13-6 overall and 4-0 in the SAC, the Lady Bison travel to Oklahoma City to battle second-place Oklahoma City Thursday night.
