Oklahoma Baptist will send 19 men and 17 women to the NAIA Indoor Track
and Field National Championships in Geneva, Ohio, for the meet Thursday
through Saturday.
With a strong contingent, the Bison and Lady Bison have hopes to compete among the top five in the nation.
The men are ranked No. 1 in the distance medley relay, second in the 4x400 relay and seventh in the 4x800. The DMR is made up of
Jory Custar, Ryan Brooks, Ross Harlan and
Adam Godwin, who turned in a 9:59.68 this season.
The 4x400 relay of
Ethan Mignard,
Justin Frye,
Seagram Kern and
Roman Gray is expected to score and the 4x800 squad of
Cody Camacho, Rah'man Byrd, Malcom Baker and
Travis Bish is capable of giving the Bison points as well.
Individually, Godwin is seeded second in the mile at 4:10.45 and
Derik Douglas fourth in the 60 meter hurdles and ninth in the heptathlon. Bish is seeded fifth in the 600 meters and Camacho is the fifth seed in the 800 with Byrd seeded 11th. Custar is seeded sixth in the 1000.
OBU also has Mignard and Gray in the 400 meters,
Jared Huckabee in the heptathlon,
Airick Johnson in the 60 meter hurdles and
Cordell Baker in the 5000 meters.
OBU is expected do well in the pole vault where
Jeff Lewis is seeded third,
Juan Gonzales seventh and
David Gilliland 11th.
The Lady Bison have potential to score big points in several events.
Verone Chambers is seeded first in the 60 meter hurdles and the 400 meters and second in the 200 meters.
Gayon Evans is the top seed in the 60 meters and 200 meters.
Nikita Tracey is the top seed in the 600 meters and also competes in the 60 hurdles.
Yesenia Avila is the second seed in the 600,
Stacy Warrior is seeded third in the 400 and
Shondia Drew is the fifth seed and Sarah Patterson the eighth seed in the 600. OBU also has
Uniqua Cooper in the 200 meters,
In the field events, OBU is led by
Evan Shimanek, who is seeded sixth in the pole vault. Also in the pole vault is
Haley McDaniel, while Nicole Cummings will try to score in the triple jump.
OBU's 4x400 relay is the top seed and includes Warrior, Tracey, Drew and Evans.
The 4x800 team of
Whitney Day, Andrea Mellontree, Avila and Patterson is seeded seventh. OBU's DMR team of
Taylor Painter, Kirsten Betterton,
Ashley Ashton, Cooper and
Kayla Lee is seeded 10th.
