Oklahoma Baptist broke two meet records Friday and will take a 19-point lead into the final day of the NAIA Swimming and Diving Championships at Oklahoma City Community College.


 

Nick Schuttinger, Mateo Maciuniak, Logan Lassley and Ivan Maciuniak won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:19.56 for a meet record and a national event championship.

 

Schuttinger also broke the meet record in the 100 butterfly with a 47.46 to lead a herd of Bison in that event. Daniel Ramirez was second at 48.21, Ivan Maciuniak was third at 48.38 and Garland Sullivan was fifth at 48.89.

 

Those big performances helped put the Bison ahead of Fresno Pacific, 517-498. Concordia is third at 414.

 

OBU also was strong in the 100 back. Ramirez was third at 50.27, Mateo Maciuniak was fourth at 50.29, Lassley was 12th at 53.14 and Jacob Phillips was 16th at 54.40.

 

Also for the Bison, Gilles Cantrelle was second in the 400 individual medley at 3:59.01 with Max Abreu in third at 4:00.89 and Tom Bullock in seventh at 4:05.83.

 

Javier Sossa was fourth in the 200 free at 1:38.61, followed by Andrew Nelson in sixth at 1:40.67.

 

Daniel Marsden placed second in the 100 breaststroke at 55.73.

 

The men's 400 medley relay of Nelson, Marsden, Schuttinger and Sossa was second at 3:18.87.

 

Nicole Wilson highlighted the Lady Bison effort with a national championship in the 400 individual medley with a 4:25.38.

 

Emma Forbes-Milne, Laura Galarza, Michelle Glass and Jessica Bragason took second in the 200 free relay at 1:34.85.

 

Galarza was third in the 100 butterfly at 56.53, followed by Bragason in 13th at 58.59.

 

OBU scored well in the 200 free with Michelle Glass in fifth at 11:54.69, Alice Oggionni in sixth at 1:54.90, Lauren Spray in 11th at 1:57.66 and Holly Trumble in 13th at 1:58.96.

 

Kerryn Mullin was fourth in the 100 breast at 1:04.67 and Lizzy Dewitt was 12th at 1:09.71.

 

Bragason was fourth in the 100 back at 58.51.

 

The 400 medley relay squad of Wilson, Mullin, Galarza and Bragason was third at 3:51.63.

 

In diving, Victoria Svetgoff was second in the 3-meter at 248.9, Tara DeWall was fifth at 199.55, Michaela Patterson took seventh at 167.65 and Rachel Schneider eighth at 139.5.

The day put OBU in second in the women's standings with 428 points. Fresno Pacific leads with 561.
