Oklahoma Baptist was held to a run and seven hits by third-ranked Oklahoma City Thursday in Sooner Athletic Conference softball action, losing both games of a doubleheader, 4-0 and 5-1.


 

Lily LaVelle (31-2) carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning of the opener, but OBU managed to get the tying run to the plate. With one out, Ashley Clifton broke up the no-hitter with a single. Alison Tunnell walked and Destinee Santistevan was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

 

LaVelle got a strikeout and a pop up to end the threat.

 

Cassidi Henderson (9-10) took the loss.

 

OBU took a 1-0 lead in the second inning of the second game on a solo home run by Kenna Self. OCU tied the score in the home half on a Jamie Rateliff home run and erupted for four more runs in the fourth.

 

The Lady Bison had six hits in the game, including a double and a single by Amanda Harmon.

 

Noelle McDowell (8-12) took the loss, allowing four earned runs over six innings.

 

Now 21-25 on the season and 7-15 in the SAC, the Lady Bison play at Oklahoma Christian Saturday in a 1 p.m. twin bill.
