Oklahoma Baptist Lady Bison softball teammates Abbey Basler and Ashley Clifton have been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team, it was announced Thursday.

The district includes seven states - Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming and Idaho. All 12 of the members of the team, however, were from Oklahoma or Texas with 10 of the 12 coming out of the Sooner Athletic Conference.

Basler is a senior shortstop from Elgin, majoring in pre-allied health. Clifton is a senior centerfielder from Joshua, Texas.

The 2012 Capital One Academic AllDistrict ® Softball Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, have been released to recognize the nation's top studentathletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Capital One became the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA's Academic AllAmerica teams programs in 2011.

To be eligible for the award, players must have a 3.2 grade point average, junior course hours and be a starter or key reserve on their team.

Basler and Clifton are now eligible to become Capital One Academic All-Americans, pending a vote of the membership.
