Oklahoma Baptist ran away with the Sooner Athletic Conference Track and Field Championship Saturday, winning the women's title by 224 points and the men's by 130.

 

It is the 16th consecutive women's conference championship for OBU.

 

Verone Chambers and Caleb Dunn were named High Point Award winners.

 

The Lady Bison scored 338 points, followed by Oklahoma Christian at 114, Southern Nazarene at 71, Rogers State at 10 and Oklahoma City with 2. The Bison had 292 points, followed by Oklahoma Christian at 162 and Southern Nazarene at 122.

 

OBU also had some improvements in their national ratings in several events.

 

Chambers turned in the NAIA's fastest time of the year in the 100 hurdles at 13.64 seconds.

 

Kenney Meigs won the high jump at 5-6, setting the No. 6 height this season in the NAIA.

 

Evan Shimanek and Erinn Shaughnessey went 1-2 in the pole vault, each meeting their season-best in the event at 12-1.5 and 11-9.75, respectively. Shimanek is ranked third and Shaugnessey seventh in the NAIA.

 

For the men, Ross Harlan had the No. 2 time in the nation in the 400 hurdles at 52.55 and Henry Caster met the provisional standard at 54.70, which is No. 28.

 

Airick Johnson met the B standard in the 100 meter hurdles for the men at 14.62 - the 12th-best mark in the NAIA event this year.

 

Justin Frye automatically qualified in the 200 meters at 21.45, which is No. 14 in the NAIA. He also met the B standard in the 100 meters at 10.71 seconds, which is 21st in the NAIA this season.

 

OBU won the men's 4x400 relay with the No. 10 time in the NAIA at 3:15.27.

 

Blaine Bassler cleared 16-4.75 to win the pole vault with the third-best NAIA height this season.

 

Ty Scarborough cleared 46-9.6 to take second and meet the B standard in the triple jump with the No. 22 distance this season.

 

Conference champions on the women's side also included Mariah Strong of OBU in the 5000 meters race walk (32:43.32), Cady Block of OC in the 3000 steeplechase (12:36.13), Brenda Felipe of Rogers State in the 5000 (19:08.52), Cassandra Hallam of OC in the 1500 (5:06.06), Chambers in the 400 (53.44), Jura Levy of OBU in the 100 (11.45) and 200 (23.50), Hannah Helker of OBU in the 800, Nikita Tracey of OBU in the 400 hurdles (58.30), Cherish Hays of OBU in the long jump (4.88m), Meigs in the triple jump (9.9 m), Makenzie Brown of OC in the discus (40.22), Jackie Stevens of SNU in the hammer (46.65), Kathryn Ostlund of OC in the javelin (41.67m) and Kalicia Williams of SNU in the shot put (12.73).

 

OBU won all six relay events.

 

Men's SAC Champions also included Cordell Baker of OBU in the 3000 steeplechase (9:28.40), Adam Godwin of OBU in the 5000 (14:57.31), Silas Kisorio of OC in the 1500 (3:55.06) and 800 (1;52.68), Renaldo Garrett of OC in the 110 hurdles (14.60), Gerrod Coney of SNU in the 400 (48.47), Kameron Conely of OBU in the high jump (1.86 meters), Tracy Marshall of OC in the long jump (6.98m), Brandon Jackson of OC in the triple jump (14.6m), Dunn in the discus (44.95) and shot put (14.73), Travis Boyd of SNU in the hammer (51.61) and Connor Shavers of OC in the javelin (50.31m).
