Oklahoma Baptist put away all doubt with a nine-run eighth inning to claim a 19-8 run-rule victory in the Sooner Athletic Conference Baseball Championship Game Saturday in Shawnee.
The Bison saw a 9-2 lead dwindle to 9-7 and 10-8 before the eruption in the top of the eighth.
Mitch Prophet tacked on an RBI single in the second for a 6-0 lead.
LCU scored on a passed ball in the third and cut the lead to 6-2 with the first of two Jason Fisch home runs, this one in the fourth inning.
The Chaps answered with a five-run fifth on an RBI double by Karl Seiter, an OBU error and a three-run home run by Fisch, cutting the Bison lead to 9-7.
OBU got a run on a wild pitch in the seventh, but LCU matched it with a Brennyn Smith solo home run in the home half.
Then came the Bison explosion in the eighth.
The Bison had 16 hits in the game, including three each by Colon and Rivera and two apiece by Prophet and Cerda. Every Bison in the starting batting order had at least one hit and seven had RBI with Baptista and Cerda leading with three each.
Daniel Marti (5-0) got the win with 2.2 innings of relief.
Now 46-12, the Bison will await their NAIA Opening Round assignment on Sunday. The round begins Thursday.
