Oklahoma Baptist knocked off Lubbock Christian 78-67 despite some nice shooting by the Chaparrals.
OBU made 20 of 24 free throws and led for the final 38 minutes. Though LCU never seriously threatened, the Bison couldn't get more than a 16-point separation in the score.
"We'll definitely take the win," said OBU's Al Moore. "It seemed like every time we made a big run, they made a three."
OBU had just a four-point lead before Nate Brumfield started a 7-0 run in which he scored five points. That gave the Bison a 23-12 lead with 7:15 left in the game. The Bison had a 37-26 halftime advantage.
Jacob Klockenga scored to open the second half for LCU, but Moore scored four points in a 5-0 OBU run and Brumfield added a three-point play to give the Bison a 45-30 lead with 16:21 left.
The Chaps got it down to eight, 55-47, with 10:56 left in the game but Brent Jones and Charles Carter had three-point plays in an 8-0 OBU run to peak the Bison lead at 63-47 with 9:11 left in the contest.
The Chaps got within nine three times in the final five minutes but OBU had offensive answers each time.
"That team proved that if you get them in their gym, they're going to be a better team," said Bison coach Doug Tolin.
Brumfield led the Bison in scoring with 22 points, followed by Jones with 16, Garrett Steinmetz with 13, Moore with 12 and Justin Williams with 10. Jones also had six assists and four steals.
Now 14-2 overall and 7-1 in the SAC, the Bison entertain Wayland Baptist at 3 p.m. Saturday.
