Oklahoma Baptist cranked out three home runs and blew open a tie game
with an eight-run fifth inning for a 16-6 win over University of the
Southwest Friday in Abilene, Texas.
Josh Collazo hit a grand slam, Jonathan Carnes hit a pair of homers and Sean Iago clouted his second home run of the season.
Trailing 1-0 after one inning, the Bison took a 3-1 lead in the second, including a lead-off home run by Iago.
Southwest took a 5-3 lead in the second on a grand slam of its own, but OBU tied the game in the third on a two-run home run by Carnes.
OBU blew things open with the eight run fifth.
Carnes had a two-run double to left. Justin Trejo and Billy Thomas had RBI singles and Collazo hit the grand slam for his second hit of the inning.
OBU tacked on two more in the seventh on a wild pitch and an RBI single by Arin Fowble. Carnes hit a solo shot in the top of the eighth to give the Bison the run-rule lead.
Carnes, Thomas and Collazo had three hits each with Carnes driving in five runs and Collazo four. Iago, Trejo and Chad Dawkins had two hits each.
Josh Palmer (1-0) struck out 10 through six innings to pick up the win.
Now 3-0, the Bison play Southwest and host Hardin-Simmons Saturday afternoon.
