Jonathan Hilton will head into the second day of the NAIA Indoor Track
and Field Championships as the leader in the men's heptathlon.
Hilton was in the pack until he won the shot put portion of the event with a heave of 42-11.75 and then the high jump with a leap of 6-7.5. Hilton moved into first place with 2991 points after the high jump with teammate Jared Huckabee in eighth at 2612
Hilton was eighth in the 60 meters at 7.35 with Huckabee coming in 12th at 7.47. Hilton took fourth in the long jump, clearing 21-10.25. Huckabee was eighth at 21-2. Huckabee was 13th in the shot put at 35-2.
Abby Lewis finished eighth in the pentathlon. She started the pentathlon with a 12th place in the 60 meter hurdles at 9.70 seconds, but got back into scoring position with a third-place, 5-2, finish in the high jump. She was fifth in the shot put with a toss of 33-11.25 and was 10th in the 800 at 2:38.52.
The men's 4x800 relay team of Nick Blackwell, Dakota Price, Andre Thomas and Durrell Williams advanced to the finals.
The women's 4x400 relay squad of Marissa Moseley, Sarah Patterson, Shondia Drew and Verone Chambers won their head advanced to the semifinals with a 3:52.62, the second best time of the prelims.
The men's 4x400 team of Olabusomi Bashorun, Adam Betterton, Pierien Iniss and Billy Christy was third in their heat with the seventh-best time in the prelims - 3:17.01.
The Lady Bison distance medley relay team of Kirsten Morrow, Andrea Mellontree, Alexis Taylor and Kayla Lee was sixth in its heat and did not advance at 12:49.50. The men's distance medley relay team was third in its heat and also missed the cut at 10:16.50.
