Oklahoma Baptist trailed most of the game, but erupted for a 10-run
seventh inning to knock off USAO 15-5 Thursday night in an eight-inning
run-rule.
Luke Krobath got an RBI triple and scored on a passed ball for a 2-0 USAO lead in the first inning.
The
Bison answered with a Josh Kirkpatrick RBI double in the bottom of the
third to make it 2-1, but the Drovers countered with an unearned run in
the fourth to take a 3-1 edge.
Sean Iago blasted a two-out home run in the bottom of the fourth to pull the Bison to within 3-2.
Tyler
Duran got the first two Drovers out in the top of the fifth, but USAO
loaded the bases and scored on a wild pitch to take a 4-2 lead.
In
the bottom of the fifth, Chad Dawkins doubled and moved to third on a
single by Arin Fowble, looking to spark a rally, but Nate Hammons
picked off Fowble and OBU got only one run in the inning on a Josh
Collazo sacrifice fly.
Joe Burnell homered to start the USAO sixth for a 5-3 lead.
Justin Trejo scored on an Iago squeeze bunt to make it 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth.
The
Bison then erupted for 10 in the seventh. The inning included a pair of
RBI singles by Victor Manzano, a three-run home run by Billy Thomas,
and RBI single by Collazo and an RBI ground out by Fowble.
Tyler Duran picked up the win for the Bison with 10 strikeouts in seven innings of work.
Thomas and Kirkpatrick paced OBU's 16-hit offense with three apiece, while Fowble, Collazo, Manzano and Trejo added two each.
The win puts OBU at 13-6 overall and 2-5 in the SAC with two games to be played at USAO Saturday.
