Oklahoma Baptist claimed 11 new national qualifiers and improved on four other previously qualified events at Baylor University's Michael Johnson Classic Saturday in Waco, Texas.

Nick Blackwell and Billy Christy qualified in the 800 meters. Blackwell won the event in 1:53.38 and Christy was third at 1:53.62.

OBU also had two new qualifiers in the 400 meters in Pierien Iniss and Ethan Mignard. Iniss finished in 47.81 and Mignard in 48.47.

The 400 hurdles also had two new Bison qualify with Adam Betterton in second with a 53.40. Bradley Jimerson was fifth at 54.90 for a B standard time.

John Armstrong became an automatic qualifier in the hammer throw with a toss of 172-8, breaking his own school record.

Andre Thomas qualified in the 800 meters at 1:50.21 and Justin Stroup qualified in the 1500 meters at 3:54.53.

Seth Brown qualified with a B standard in the pole vault, clearing 15-7.

The men's 4x100 relay team of Jared Jackson, Omari Blair, Wit Williams and Iniss had a qualifying mark of 41.17, but they have done better this season.

Mignard, Jackson, Williams and Iniss also ran a qualifying time in the 4x400 at 3:16.76, but not as well as they have done earlier this year.

On the women's side, Brianna Shippy broke her own school record in the pole vault, clearing 11-7.75 and improving her previous qualifying mark.

Verone Chambers improved on her previous automatic time in the 400 hurdles with a 59.14 Saturday to win the event, beating five NCAA Division I contestants. Optimum Baker finished in 65.14 seconds, giving her a B standard qualification.

Marissa Moseley improved on her previously No. 5 time in the nation with a 53.67 in the 400 meters.

Moseley, Sarah Patterson, Shondia Drew and Chambers improved on their previous automatic time in the 4x400 yard relay with a time of 3:45.84.

Moseley, Drew, Nicole Cummings and Chambers had a qualifying mark of 47.36 seconds in the 4x100 relay, but have had a better time this season.

Cummings also had a qualifying mark in the triple jump at 37-9.5, but has cleared a longer distance this year.

OBU competes in the Drake Relays next week.
