Oklahoma Baptist University's Jonathan Hilton, the reigning NAIA decathlon champion, placed fifth in the event at the Drake Relays Thursday, beating a number of NCAA opponents, including two from the Big Ten Conference.

Hilton scored 6970 points, 32 off his school and NAIA record. In the running events, he was tops in the 110 hurdles at 14.85, third in the 400 meters (50.34), fourth in the 1500 meters (4:38.09) and 10th in the 100 meters (11.54).

He was third in the high jump at 6-7.5, sixth in the long jump at 21-8.5 and 10th in the pole vault at 12-5.5.

In the throwing events, Hilton was fourth in the discus at 130-2, eighth in the shot put (39-8) and ninth in the javelin at 157-4.

The rest of the OBU contingent begins their events Friday.
