Verone Chambers and Marissa Moseley celebrated Memorial Day weekend
with a memorable finish to the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field
Championships.
Both claimed individual titles, were part of a national championship
relay team and All-Americans on another, leading Oklahoma Baptist
University to a runner-up finish in the championship meet. The OBU
men's team finished in a third-place tie.
Chambers, a freshman, claimed the 400 hurdles championship in 58.80 seconds. Moseley successfully defended her 400 meter championship with a 54.02.
Moseley, Sarah Patterson, Yesenia Avila and Chambers won the 4x400 relay in 3:43.99. It was the fifth year in a row the Lady Bison have won the 4x400 relay.
Moseley, Shondia Drew, Nicole Cummings and Chambers also placed fourth in 4x100 relay with a time of 46.45.
The Lady Bison finished a distant second to national champion Wayland Baptist. WBU had 102 points, while OBU was second at 58. In all, 61 schools scored points at the meet, including Oklahoma Christian, which finished 16th with 16 points.
The Bison finished in a tie for third with Concordia, Ore., with 51.5 points. Azusa Pacific won the meet with 80, followed by Dickinson State with 71. There were 64 scoring men's teams, including Oklahoma Christian (12th with 26), Wayland Baptist (17th with 16), and Southern Nazarene (44th with four).
Andre Thomas was second in the 800 meters in 1:50.18.
The 4x400 men's relay team of Ethan Mignard, Wit Williams, Thomas and Pierien Iniss, was fourth in 3:10.60.
The men's 4x100 relay team of Jared Jackson, Omari Blair, Williams and Mignard finished seventh in 41.18 seconds.
Williams was seventh in 200 meters with a 21.77 time.
OBU's day started on a positive note with points in both the men's and women's marathon. Lance Goodwin ran a 2:31.32 to claim second while Meredith Gardner was fifth for the Lady Bison with a time of 3:16.24.
Natalie Pedersen placed fifth in the 3000 steeplechase in 10:52.16 to finish her career with her first All-America honor and a new school record. Brock Stoltzfus was 10th in the men's steeplechase with a time of 9:23.89.
Seth Brown finished in a fourth-place tie in the pole vault, clearing 15-7, while David Gilliland was 11th at 15-1.
