Oklahoma Baptist University will host the 2009 Faith 7 Basketball Bowl
Saturday at 7:35, capping a three-day stay for some of the best seniors
in high school basketball in Texas and Oklahoma.
Players arrive on campus at 3 p.m. Thursday and begin practice at 7:30 p.m. Friday's schedule includes practices at 9:15 a.m. and 2 p.m. at OBU and St. Gregory's.
Meals for the teams are being provided by the Ambassador Club of the Chamber of Commerce, ARAMARK, Liberty Baptist Church, Faith 7 Activity Center, the Masonic Hall, First Christian Church, Billy Boy Bar-b-que and BancFirst.
Some of the players will participate in the Shawnee Trophy Slam Dunk Contest at 7 p.m.
Oklahoma Player Profiles
Lane Adams, 6-4, 195, Red Oak High School
Adams, an OBCA All-State selection, was a 2008 and 2009 newspaper All-State pick. He averaged 32 points, eight rebounds and three assists in leading Coach Trey Booth's Eagles to the 2009 Class B State championship with a 30-1 record. Adams, who is headed to Missouri State, was MVP of the Rock Island Conference and the 2009 State Tournament. He also was a two-time District Player of the Year. He set the school record with 61 points in a game and is fifth all time in high school with 3,251 career points.
Josh Davis, 6-5, 235, Star Spencer High School
Davis is a Large West All-State pick and an All-Region 9 selection. He was also All-City Conference Player of the Year, Little All-City Player of the Year and Class 4A Player of the Year. Davis averaged 16.2 points, 11 rebounds and two assists per game in leading Coach Patrick Cudjoe's Bobcats to the 2009 4A State Championship. Davis will next play at Hutchinson Community College.
Harrison Dupont, 6-4, 190, Carl Albert High School
An All-State and All-District performer, Dupont averaged 22.4 points and 9.8 rebounds for Coach Jay Price's Titans. She shot 61 percent from the field anf scored over 1,000 points in leading CAHS to three state tournaments and earning MVP of the tournament as a sophomore. Dupont will continue his basketball career at The Citadel.
Donte Foster, 6-2, 180, Guthrie High School
The Class 5A and District Player of the Year, Foster was a first-team All-State selection and led Pete Papahronis' Bluejays to the 2008 and 2009 state titles. He averaged 16.5 points and eight rebounds per game as GHS went 27-2 last season. Foster is undecided on his college choice.
Levi Giese, 6-9, 200, Union High School
Bound for Lafayette College, Giese averaged 12.8 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists as a senior, earning First-Team Frontier Valley Conference and All-District honors. He led Coach Rudy Garcia's Redskins to the region and area championships and an appearance in the state semifinals with a 19-8 record.
Kyle Hardrick, 6-8, 230, Putnam City High School
Hardrick average 10.7 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists on his way to All-Conference honors. He led Coach A.D. Burtchi's Pirates to a state championship in 2009 with a 25-4 record. A 60.1 percent field goal shooter, Hardrick is bound for the University of Oklahoma.
Tyrus McGee, 6-1, 180, Stringtown High School
McGee averaged 30.4 points and 10 rebounds while shooting 68 percent from the field and 84 percent from the free throw line. An All-State selection, McGee led coach Barry McMichael's Tigers to a 30-3 record and a district title. McGee is undecided on his college choice.
Matt Qualls, 6-7, 218, Tahlequah High School
Qualls, a Large East All-State and the District 3 Player of the Year, averaged 23.1 points and 13 rebounds in leading coach Leroy Qualls' Tigers to regional and area championships and an appearance in the state semifinals. He set a record with 18 straight made field goals in the Shrine Tournament against three top 10 teams. He led the Metro Lakes Conference in scoring and rebounding for four years, finishing with 2,123 points and 1,291 rebounds in his career. Qualls is headed for the University of Central Oklahoma.
Will Reinke, 6-10, 245 Lawton High School
Reinke averaged 17.6 points, 11.8 rebounds and six assists while shooting 65 percent from the field on his way to OCA All-State honors and OBCA Region 4 Player of the Year honors. He led Coach Kelly New's Wolverines to a 22-6 record. Reinke is bound for Stephen F. Austin University.
Micah Smith, 6-1, 170, Muskogee High School
An OCBA and OCA All-State selections, Smith was also All-District and All-State, leading Class 6A in three-pointers. Smith was MVP of the John Noble Tournament in Moore and led Coach Terry Scott's Roughers to the state semifinals with an 18-9 record. Smith will next play at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.
Texas Profiles
Javier Carter, 6-8, 215, Parish Episcopal High School
Carter led Coach Dorian Harris' Panthers to a 20-15 record and a district runner-up finish, averaging 17.6 points and 11.1 rebounds per game. A second-team All-State selection, Carter was First-Team All-District and District Defensive Player of the Year. He set the school record for points in a game with 46 and rebounds in a game with 27. Carter is bound for the University of South Alabama.
Aaron Michael Davis, 6-3, 187, Wheatley High School
Coached by Willie Patrick, Davis led the Wildcats to a 32-5 record last season on his way to first-team All-State honors. He was co-MVP and first team All-District. Davis averaged 23.6 points and 5.6 rebounds, knocking down 55 percent from the field and 48 percent from three-point range. He his headed to Texas Tech.
Reger D. Dowell II, 6-1, 175, Duncanville High School
Coached by Phil McNeely, Dowell averaged 12 points and seven assists per game, earning All-District honors for the Panthers and leading his team to a 27-10 record. Dowell's next stop is Oklahoma State University.
Roger Franklin, 6-4, 215, Duncanville High School
An All-State and All-District pick, Franklin was part of Coach Phil McNeely's perfect 39-0 state championship season in 2006. He averaged 18 points, nine rebounds and two assists. He Shot 67 percent from the field. Franklin will next play at Oklahoma State University.
Tommy Griffin, 5-11, 195, Houston Madison High School
An All-State guard, Griffin averaged 23.7 points, 5.5 assists and 3.2 steals per game to lead Coach Craig Maura's Marlins to a 19-10 record. He was District MVP and scored 49 points in a game this season. His next stop is the University of Oklahoma.
Derek Johnson, 6-7, 220, Woodlands Christian
A four-time All-State and All-District selection, Johnson averaged 17 points and nine rebounds per game and shot 51 percent from the field. He guided Coach Darrel Johnson's Warriors to the TAPPS 3A State Championship in 2008 and 2009 with a 32-4 record this season. He will continue his basketball career at the University of Evansville.
Kevin Perry, 6-6, 225, Westbury Christian School
A three-time All-District and All-State selection, Perry led Coach Russell Carr's Wildcats to state championships in 2006 and 2009. The team was 33-6 in 2009. He averaged 19.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and four assists. His college choice is the University of Texas at El Paso.
Cory Remekun, 6-8, 205, Mesquite High School
An All-Region and All-District selection, Remekunearned District Defensive Player of the Year honors and led Coach Brian Curts' Skeeters to district and area titles and to the regional finals with a 28-6 record. Remekun averaged 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists. He shot 62 percent from the field and will next play at St. Louis.
Nick Russell, 6-4, 195, Grace Prep
Coached by Rodney Forsett, Russell averaged 21 points, seven rebounds and eight assists in leading the Lions to a 31-6 record and the TAPPS Class 1-4A State finals. Russell earned first team All-State and All-District. He will play at Kansas State University.
Justin Wesley, 6-8, 200, North Crowley
Coached by Tommy Brakel, Wesley averaged 10 points, seven rebounds and a district-leading 2.4 blocks per game. He was his district's Defensive Player of the Year, helping the Panthers to a 33-6 record. He will next play at Lamar University.
