Oklahoma Baptist stormed the first Shawnee Showdown volleyball match of 2009, taking St. Gregory's in three sets at W.P. Wood Fieldhouse Tuesday.

OBU knocked off the Lady Cavaliers 24-13, 25-20, 25-12.

Tamy Leipelt had 13 kills and four aces in the three sets, while Tori Orms added nine kills and Chassie Hamilton eight.

Brittany Palmer had 21 assists and Sabra Clark 14.

Cassie Winker had 18 digs for the Lady Bison, while Orms had four blocks, including two solos.

OBU broke open a 4-3 first set with seven straight points, including four aces by Leipelt and two kills by Hamilton. The 25-13 final score matched OBU's largest lead of the set.

The Lady Cavaliers had a 17-14 lead in the second set, but OBU went on a 7-1 run to make it a 21-18 game and matched points from there.

OBU trailed briefly in the second set but methodically built a 20-10 lead and closed the match out on two SGU attack errors.

Now 19-7 overall and 3-4 in the Sooner Athletic Conference, the Lady Bison head to Illinois to play in the Olivet Nazarene Classic Friday and Saturday. They return to SAC action Oct. 20 at Mid-America Christian and then host John Brown Oct. 22.
