Oklahoma Baptist will take on 2009 nemesis Oklahoma City in Lubbock,
Texas, Friday at 2 p.m. for a berth in the Sooner Athletic Conference
championship game.
OBU lost both its regular season matches to the Stars but a victory in the 2 p.m. semifinal would land the Lady Bison one win from a national tournament berth.
Southern Nazarene and Wayland Baptist play at 11:30 a.m. with that winner to take on top-seeded Lubbock Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
That winner will play the OBU-OCU winner for the conference tournament crown at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Since OBU did not get a vote in the final poll, they will have to win the tournament to advance.
The Lady Bison come into the tournament as the hottest team, having won their last six matches, including road victories over Lubbock Christian, Wayland Baptist and a home victory over Southern Nazarene.
OBU is 8-5 in hostile venues this season and a whopping 14-0 on neutral courts.
The team became just the second Lady Bison volleyball squad to record 30 wins in a season.
OBU features the SAC leaders in kills per game in Tamy Leipelt (3.8) and digs per game in Cassie Winker (5.9).
Oklahoma City is 18-19 and tied OBU for second with a 9-5 conference record. They are led by Xiaoting Ma, who averages 3.5 kills per set.
