Oklahoma Baptist University has added Mansfield (Texas) High School standout Shelby Brandes to the softball roster for 2011.
Brandes was a first-team All-District performer at MHS after earning Newcomer of the Year and Academic All-District honors. She plans to major in health and physical education at OBU.
"We're pleased to have Shelby in the program at OBU," said Lady Bison coach Pam Fink. "She's got a chance to be a quick contributor to the team and she fits the model of an OBU student athlete."
Shelby is the daughter of John and Linda Brandes. Her mother played basketball at the University of West Virginia and her father was a tight end for the Super Bowl Champion Washington Redskins.
Recruited by Abilene Christian, Arkansas Tech and Texas State, Shelby selected OBU because of the "Christian atmosphere, Coach Fink and the good softball program."
