Fourth-ranked Oklahoma Baptist used runs of 11-0 and 12-0 in the second half to shake free from No. 22 Lubbock Christian in Sooner Athletic Conference women's basketball action Saturday in Shawnee.


Gabi Mattox and Taujhnae Travis led the Lady Bison with 21 points and nine rebounds apiece.

The first half witnessed 15 lead changes with OBU trailing by as many as six in the half and by a 35-34 count at intermission. LCU got out to a 39-34 lead with the first two baskets of the second half before the Lady Bison got things rolling.

An 11-0 run with five points by Travis and four by Ashley Harrell gave OBU a 45-39 lead with 16;13 to play.

Lubbock Christian tied the score at 50-50, but the Lady Bison scored seven in a row (five by Travis) to take a 57-50 edge. Brittany Hampton tallied a three for LCU to make it a three-point game with 5:44 to go, but OBU answered with a 12-0 game-clincher.

Travis scored eight and Mattox added four to push the lead out to its biggest expanse, 73-58, with 1:21 to play.

OBU dominated the glass with 46 boards to 23, including 19 offensive rebounds that the Lady Bison turned into a 21-7 advantage in second-chance points.

Harrell added 14 points and four blocked shots for the OBU ladies.

Now 20-2 on the season and 13-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference, the Lady Bison host Shawnee rival St. Gregory's Tuesday at 6 p.m.
