Oklahoma Baptist had its best defensive effort of the season, holding Northwestern to a season low in scoring with a 76-33 win in the Sooner Athletic Conference women's basketball quarterfinals in Bethany Thursday.

 


 

OBU opened with the first nine points of the game and later added a 12-0 run to establish a 33-11 lead with 3:34 left in the first half. The Lady Bison closed the half on a 7-0 run for a 40-13 lead at the half.

 

The lead peaked at 76-31 as OBU completed a 15-2 run with 2:01 left in the game.

 

Taujhnae Travis and Gabriell Mattox scored 17 each to lead the Lady Bison. Rachel Wilczek led Northwestern with 10.

 

OBU (29-2) plays Rogers State in the semifinals Friday at 1 p.m. Northwestern concludes its season at 14-17.

 

OBU limited Northwestern to 26 percent shooting for the game and the Lady Rangers didn't help themselves at the free throw line, missing 12 of 13 attempts.

 

The Lady Bison also had a season-best 21 steals, forcing 27 turnovers and getting a 24-4 edge in points off turnovers. Travis had five steals and Defensive Player of the Year Ashley Harrell had four steals.
