Since football arrived on Bison Hill, the Bison Brigade Marching Band has energized fans and elevated school spirit. During a typical season, the Bison Brigade performs two to three shows over the course of all home football games. Participation is open to all students, regardless of major.

While the OBU band is the oldest musical ensemble on campus dating back to 1911, the marching band only existed from 1935 until its discontinuation in 1940, the same year football started its long hiatus on Bison Hill.

A pep band was introduced in 2013 in conjunction with football season as OBU re-established its football program after 73 years. The band primarily performed in the stands and provided halftime entertainment for football fans. In addition, the instrumental ensemble made appearances at OBU basketball games, pep rallies, homecoming festivities, and student chapels.

A year later, the OBU pep band transitioned into the Bison Brigade under the direction of Ryan Meeks, bringing with it the introduction of the fight song, "Fight On, OBU," and joining athletic teams and other spirit organizations as a visual symbol of the OBU community.

In 2021, the Bison Brigade entered its next stage of growth by becoming a part of the OBU Athletics Department. Dr. Brian Stackhouse accepted the new role of Director of Athletic Bands and continues the ensemble’s reputation of excellence established by Director of Bands, Dr. Teresa Purcell-Giles, band alumni, and current students.
