Dr. Sam Freas was hired as Oklahoma Baptist University's first swim coach in 2011.
He has been selected Small College Coach of the Year and has served as president as the College Swim Coaches Association.
Internationally,
Freas has been head swim coach of the World University Games, a two
World Coach at the Goodwill Games and was on the coaching staff of the
South African Olympic team.
He has coached world record holders, world champions, an Olympic Gold Medalist and several All-Americans.
With
college stops including Hawaii, Arkansas and Louisiana State, Freas has
been conference Coach of Year at each post. He also served as director
of athletics at Kenyon College.
"I feel called to be here," Freas said of his position at OBU. "It's not a job to me."
Freas and his wife of 36 year, Rosemary, have four children and six grandchildren.
