Nelson returns to the Bison for his second season. He is a transfer from Rose State Junior College and also played at Midwest City High School under the coaching of Craig Troxell. Nelson comes from an athletic family including his brother, Philip Nelson, who plays tennis at East Central University, and his father, Kenny Nelson, who wrestled at the University of Oklahoma. Though he was also recruited by Oklahoma Christian and the University of Central Oklahoma, Nelson chose OBU because of the "great Christian environment, great baseball tradition, and it is close to home." He is the son of Kenny and Karen Nelson.
