After contacting NAIA officials late Tuesday afternoon, Oklahoma Baptist University decided that it will not have its men's soccer team in the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship in Alabama next week. This action was due to the use of an ineligible student-athlete.
They started the postseason with a losing record and have only two ‘wins' in the postseason, but the Oklahoma Baptist men's soccer team is in the final 16 and heading to Alabama.
OBU and seventh-ranked MidAmerica Nazarene played to a 2-2 draw after two overtimes but, as they did in the Sooner Athletic Conference championship game, the Bison won in a shootout, 5-4.
Oklahoma Baptist, the seventh seed in the Sooner Athletic Conference men's soccer tournament, completed its improbable run with the league title Friday, tying John Brown through two overtimes and then winning a shootout.
The shootout puts the Bison into the NAIA Opening Round Nov. 17 at a site to be determined.
