Forty-one Oklahoma Baptist track and field athletes make the trek to Marion, Ind., next week for the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships.
The three-day event launches Thursday, May 23, and is hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Austin Basterrechea of College of Idaho has been named NAIA National Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week and Clay Shepperson of Oklahoma Baptist has been tabbed as the NAIA National Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Basterrechea and Shepperson were selected based on their performances from April 22 – 28.
Oklahoma Baptist's Clay Shepperson has been named Sooner Athletic Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week for April 22-28.
Shepperson, a freshman from Elgin, Okla., anchored two winning relay teams at the prestigious Drake Relays. He was on the winning sprint medley relay with a time of 3:22.44 and the winning 4x800 relay, which won in 7:31.40 – the best NAIA time of the season. He also anchored the 4x400 relay team that finished in 3:11.03 for the second-best NAIA time this year.
Oklahoma Baptist left the prestigious Drake Relays with two event titles and two NAIA top times Saturday.
The Lady Bison were led by Stacy Warrior, Taylor Moore, Aspen Marical and Evan Shimanek with a 3:41.69 in the 4x400 relay for a new No. 1 mark in the NAIA.
Oklahoma Baptist's Austin Germiller posted a 9:21.58 in the steeplechase at the Bill Williams/Bob Laptad Invite at Missouri Southern.
